Statement of children and youth, representatives of the children’s BH delegation in Geneva
For the first time in history, children from Bosnia and Herzegovina were given the opportunity to address members of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in Geneva and express their views on the situation of children in B&H. The Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by the United Nations on November 20, 1989. as the first international document that accurately and thoroughly described the rights of the child. Almost all countries in the world have signed the Convention, including B&H. By signing the Convention, each state undertook to submit reports on the state of children’s rights. Reports are also submitted by NGOs, the Ombudsman institutions and international agencies such as UNICEF.
The network of non-governmental organizations “Stronger Voice for Children” submitted an Alternative and Children’s Report on the Status of Children’s Rights, which was presented in Geneva by Adna Delic, Adin Memic and Kenan Imamovic, representatives of the children’s delegation in front of the Network.
Adna Delic, member of the Children’s Parliament of UG “Nasa djeca” Zenica, presented the area of the right to express opinions and participation of children and points out that it is very important to her that she had the opportunity to express her opinion and the opinion of other children from B&H. .
Education is the area that children talk about the most and that they think is most important to them.
Adin Memić, a member of the Children’s Parliament Novi Grad Sarajevo led by UG “Naša djeca” Sarajevo, presented the difficulties in the education system and pointed out as the biggest problem that it is decided only by those who left school a long time ago and do not consult teachers and children. .
Growing up, children come to realize that in addition to the rules set by their parents and professors, they do not have any rights of their own to their life decisions, said Kenan Imamovic, a member of the “Be a Male Club” “UG Land of Children in B&H” Tuzla. “The fact that a very large number of children grow up under such circumstances worries us a lot and encourages us to do what we do and fight for children and young people”.
The children jointly presented the issue of violence against and among children and gave their recommendations.
Assistance and support in the preparation and presentation of the Report to the children was provided by Emina Horić and Faris Bučo, who themselves as children participated in the preparation of the report, and Mirsada Bajramović and Berina Ceribašić. The members of the UN Committee were satisfied with the presentation and showed interest in the problems of children from B&H. They also praised the B&H delegation and said they rarely meet such serious 16-year-olds who speak English fluently.
